MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Sophomore Aaron Cieslak and junior Ryan Waldhart had two hits each as the Oakland University baseball team (1-5) lost 16-6 to Memphis (4-6) Sunday afternoon.
Memphis jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings of play. Oakland settled down and gave up just six hits and two runs over the next five innings.
In the sixth inning, junior D.J. Jarrad and Cieslak reached on errors and junior Tommy Jablonski singled to load the bases. Waldhart drew a walk to push Jarrad across the plate. A sacrifice fly and a fielder's choice would score Jablonski and Cieslak.
Memphis effectively ended the game by scoring six runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Golden Grizzlies wouldn't go down without a fight and had five hits and scored three runs in their last at-bats.
Cieslak and Waldhart both had doubles on the day while Jarrad scored two runs and drove in two runs. Sophomore Connor Mielock (0-2) gave up seven hits, eight runs, all earned and struck out a batter in two and 1/3rd innings of work.
Oakland remains on the road, taking on Wright State, Friday, Mar. 12. The game is scheduled to start at 5:00 p.m.
