PEORIA, Ill. - Junior Jackie Dinicu and sophomores Kristin Karoub and Caitlin Young each recorded victories as the Oakland University women's tennis team (0-2) lost a tough battle 5-2 to Bradley (5-6), Saturday afternoon.
"We played a very good match today," said head coach Heather Redshaw. "We lost by the same score to Bradley last year, but we were much more competitive today than we were a year ago. Jackie and Kristin played very well in singles. We keep getting better with each match which is what you want to happen."
At No. 4 singles, Dinicu was up 2-0 and hadn't even lost a point when her opponent retired due to an injury. Karoub had a dominating win at No. 6 singles over Brigitte Graf, 6-1, 6-1. Karoub and Young teamed up to have a solid 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles over Graf and Kennedy Scott.
The Golden Grizzlies had three hard fought losses in singles. At No. 5, junior Amanda Pettey fell 7-5, 6-3 to Scott. At No. 3, senior Gabrielle Gogas was defeated 7-6, 7-6 by Jessica Buterbaugh. Both sets had to be decided in a tiebreaker. At No. 2, Young lost 6-4, 6-4 to Emily Regenold.
