With over a two decades of experience as the head tennis coach at Oakland, Heather Redshaw joined the Oakland athletic department in the summer of 2000 as the head women's tennis coach. Redshaw is responsible for all aspects of Oakland tennis, including scheduling, recruiting, training and conditioning.
The 2018-19 season was one for the record books as the Golden Grizzlies won a program-best 14 matches, finishing third in the Horizon League. Oakland made history in the league tournament by winning its first league tournament match in program history against rival Detroit Mercy in a thrilling 4-3 come-from-behind fashion on April 26, 2019. More history was made as Redshaw coached the program's first Horizon League Player of the Year in Ava Thielman who went 18-5 in singles play, and 8-1 in league play. Her 18 wins is the most im Oakland's Division I era and the most since the 1999-00 season. Darya Maltseva also earned all-league second team honors, the first time in Oakland's history multiple players earned league accolades.Â
In 2015, Redshaw guided the Golden Grizzlies to its first appearance in the Horizon League Tournament. Under Redshaw's tutelage, Oakland's Cam Sabourin was named a second-team all-league performer, the first all-conference honors for the Golden Grizzlies since the 2008 campaign.
In addition to her position at Oakland, Redshaw is a tennis professional at the Rochester Hills Tennis & Swim Club. The Shelby Township resident has been at RHT&SC since 1997.
Redshaw graduated from Western Michigan University in 1992 with a degree in exercise science. While at Western Michigan, Redshaw played two years of collegiate tennis. She is a USPTA Certified Professional and a Prince Pro Member.
