BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. - Sophomore Karen Karoub, junior Jackie Dinicu and senior Gabrielle Gogas picked up wins at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles, respectively, but it wasn't enough to give the Golden Grizzlies the edge as the Oakland University women's tennis team (0-7) dropped a tight 4-3 decision to Niagara University (4-12) Monday afternoon at Bloomfield Tennis and Fitness.
Karoub defeated her opponent 7-5, 6-1, while Dinicu took both of her sets to extra play, coming up with 7-6 (5) and 7-5 victories. Gogas, a native of Sarnia, Ontario, picked up an additional win in No. 4 singles, with scores of 6-4, 6-2.
In doubles action, the No. 2 team of Dinicu and Gogas took the 8-5 victory.
The Golden Grizzlies next open up league play in Fort Wayne, Ind., starting with a matchup against Oral Roberts on Thursday, April 1 at 2 p.m.
