CONWAY, S.C. - Sophomore Kelsey Krych stole her school record 20th base of the season as the Oakland University softball team (8-19) lost a tough one, 3-2 to Sacred Heart (9-8) on the third day of the CCU Softball Classic.
Krych broke the record of 19 set last year by Alyssa Deacon.
Oakland drew first blood in the bottom of the first inning. Sophomore Kelsey Krych drew a walk and stole second. Junior Danielle Peters laid down a sacrifice bunt to push Krych to third. Senior Katie Dreyer then put down a bunt single to score Krych.
In the top of the second, Sacred Heart used a passed ball and a double to tie the game up at 1-1. In the top of the fourth inning, the Pioneers hit a solo shot to make it 2-1.
Oakland would counter in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, freshman Alivia Nikolaus singled to left field and stole second. Freshman Dani Dulberg laced a double down the right field line to score Nikolaus, making it 2-2.
In the top of the sixth, Sacred Heart had an error and a base hit to score a run to make it 3-2. In the bottom of the seventh with one out, junior Alyssa Deacon smacked a double to right center field. Deacon moved to third on an illegal pitch; however the Pioneers got a strike out to end the game.
Junior Marisa Everitt gave up three hits, three runs, two of them earned and struck out four in seven innings of work.
Oakland returns to conference action, Mar. 26-27, taking on Southern Utah.
