CONWAY, S.C. - Sophomore Kelsey Krych tied the single-season school record for stolen bases as the Oakland University softball team (8-16) lost a heartbreaker, 6-5 in eight innings to Buffalo (8-12) on the first day of the CCU Softball Classic.
In game 2, in the second inning sophomore Leah DiCristofaro reached on an error and was replaced by pinch runner, senior Erica Lozon. Freshman Erin Galloway drew a walk to put two on.
Following a foul out, Buffalo made the throw to first to in an attempt to pick off Galloway. The ball got away and Lozon went to third. An illegal pitch scored Lozon to make it 1-0, Oakland.
In the bottom of the second inning, Sharon Barr hit a solo shot to tie the game up at 1-1. In the bottom of the third, the Bulls used three hits and an error to score three runs.
In the top of the fifth, junior Alyssa Deacon delivered a pinch hit single. Following a strike out, junior Danielle Peters drew a walk. After another strike out, senior Haley Emerson walloped a three-run shot over the left center field fence to tie the game at 4-4.
In the sixth inning, freshman Dani Dulberg singled and was forced out on a fielder's choice by Galloway. Deacon ripped a doubled to left center field to score Galloway and put the Golden Grizzlies back on top, 5-4.
In the bottom of the seventh, Buffalo used two passed balls and a wild pitch to tie the game at 5-5. In the eighth inning,the Bulls had a single and three hit by pitches to score the game-winning run.
Junior Marisa Everitt gave up five hits, four runs, three of them earned, and struck out four batters in six and 1/3rd innings of work.
Oakland takes on Sacred Heart, Saturday, Mar. 20. The game is scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m.
