DAYTON, Ohio - Freshman Todd Dunham went 3-for-4 as the Oakland University baseball team (2-6) rallied to beat Dayton (5-9) 6-5, Sunday afternoon.
Oakland got things started in the first inning. With sophomore Tim Ryan on third and junior Tommy Jablonski on second, sophomore Aaron Cieslak hit a ground ball. The infield misplayed it, allowing Jablonski and Ryan both to score. The Flyers came back to score one run each in the first and second innings.
In the third inning, junior D.J. Jarrad and Jablonski singled. A double play moved Jarrad to third and he scored off a single by junior Ryan Waldhart. Dayton scored twice in the bottom of the third to take a 4-3 lead.
In the sixth inning, Waldhart doubled and scored off a double up the middle by freshman Mike Carson. Sophomore Connor Mielock singled to left field to move Carson to third. Dunham singled to left field to score Carson and move Mielock to second.
Ryan loaded the bases with a single and Mielock scored off a sacrifice fly by Jarrad. Dayton scored once in the bottom of the sixth but could get no closer.
Ryan and Waldhart both had two hits on the day. Sophomore Kyle Teague (1-2) gave up six hits, one run which was earned and struck out six batters. Junior Mark Leichtman gave up one hit and struck out three batters in one and 2/3rd innings for his second save of the season.
Oakland will remain on the road for a three game series against Xavier, Mar. 19-21.
