CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Senior Haley Emerson went 2-for-3 as the Oakland University softball team (4-10) lost 2-1 to Miami (3-2), Saturday afternoon at the Frost Classic.
"I can't be prouder of the girls," said head coach Glenn MacDonald. "We came out and hit the ball really well. We played solid defense. Brittany threw a great game for us. We had several chances to win but the ball didn't drop our way."
In the top of the second inning, Miami used a walk and two hits to score two runs. In the bottom of the second, sophomore Leah DiCristofaro singled up the middle and was replaced by senior Anne Cicchini. Cicchini stole second and sophomore Kylie Schalz singled to the shortstop.
Cicchini and Schalz pulled off the double steal. Junior Marisa Everitt hit a ball that was misplayed by the third baseman and Cicchini scored to make it 2-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Golden Grizzlies mounted a comeback attempt. Freshman Erin Galloway dropped in a single down the right field line. Following a strikeout, Everitt singled to left field moving Galloway to second. Miami got Oakland to hit into a double play to end the game.
Doyle (3-4) gave up five hits, two runs, both earned, walked one and struck out eight.
Oakland will play Tennessee-Martin at 3:00 p.m.
