STATESBORO, Ga. - Sophomore Kelsey Krych went 3-for-4 and scored a run as the Oakland University softball team (1-4) beat Binghamton (3-2) 4-2 in eight innings for third place at the Eagle Classic, Sunday morning. Oakland will play Savannah State on Monday, Feb. 22.

"It was a great team effort today," said head coach Glenn MacDonald. "I thought everyone played well. Kelsey Krych had three hits and was our offensive leader. Brittany Doyle threw a one-hitter and pretty much commanded the whole game. I'm just looking to carrying this over to Savannah State on Monday."

Oakland drew first blood in the contest. In the fourth inning, senior Katie Dreyer reached on an error and was replaced on the bases by senior Erica Lozon. Senior Haley Emerson doubled to left center field to move Lozon to third.

Sophomore Leah DiCristofaro laid down a bunt to the pitcher, who threw the ball down the right field line. When the dust settled, Lozon had crossed the plate, Emerson was at third and DiCristofaro was at second. Junior Alyssa Deacon doubled to third base to score Emerson and make it 2-0.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Binghamton pulled off a double steal to close the gap to 2-1.

In the bottom of the seventh, Jessica Phillips walked, moved to second on a sac bunt and to third on a grounder. Meghan Tucker walked but the Oakland catcher misplayed the pitch, allowing Phillips to tie the game at 2-2.

In the top of the eighth inning, senior Anne Cicchini was placed on second due to international tie breaker rules. Krych singled to the shortstop to move Cicchini to third and then stole second. Freshman Erin Galloway singled to the left side to score Cicchini. The throw home was high, allowing Krych to score, making it 4-2.

In the bottom of the inning, a sacrifice fly moved Chelsea Horne to third. The Golden Grizzlies got a line out and a ground out to end the inning.

Sophomore Brittany Doyle (1-2) gave up one hit, two runs, one earned, walked five and struck out five in eight innings for the win.
