STATESBORO, Ga. - Senior Katie Dreyer went 1-for-2 with a double as the Oakland University softball team (0-2) fell 8-0 to Georgia Southern (1-0), Friday afternoon. The Golden Grizzlies will take on Binghamton at 10:00 a.m., Saturday morning.
"We fought through a tough day today," said head coach Glenn MacDonald. "Today was the first time we got to play outside and we played against two top teams and made some mental mistakes. However I'm sure we will recover tomorrow and have a great second day."
Dreyer and freshman Erin Galloway each had one hit for Oakland. Alison Tansel (0-1) gave up five hits, four runs, three of them earned and struck out three batters.
The Eagles scored eight runs on eight hits, three errors and one walk. Brianna Streetmon (1-0) and Kaitlynn Szczepanski combined to throw a two hitter with four strikeouts.
"Katie Dreyer was a highlight for us" said coach MacDonald. "In addition, Leah DiCristofaro and Erin Galloway played well. The rest of the team will get on track tomorrow. We still have a shot at winning the tournament."
