MOREHEAD, Ky. - Sophomore right fielder Alyssa Deacon drove in the game-winning runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Oakland University (6-11) a 5-4 come-from-behind win over Dayton (2-11) in game two, but the Golden Grizzlies dropped the opener to Wright State (7-9), 3-1, to split a pair of games on day one of the Morehead State Softball Tournament at University Field on Saturday.
Senior Jessica Granger (3-5) tossed a complete game against Dayton for the win, giving up nine hits, four runs, four earned runs, walked three and struck out seven.
Senior second baseman Julie Owen earned five walks on the day, being intentionally walked twice against WSU. She finished 0-for-1. Junior first baseman Katie Dreyer went 2-for-4, with two runs batted in against Dayton, while senior left fielder Roberta Ches went 2-for-4 with one run scored against the Flyers.
Sophomore Alison Tansel (1-3) started in the circle in game one, allowing seven hits, three runs, three earned runs and struck out two in 4.2 innings pitched. Freshman Brittany Doyle tossed a strong 1.1 innings in relief, giving up no hits and fanned one.
In the opener, the Golden Grizzlies took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on a bases loaded walk by junior catcher Angela Righetti. The Raiders pushed three runs across in the bottom of the fifth inning courtesy of a three-run home run off the bat of Justine Shilt as OU fell by two, 3-1.
The Golden Grizzlies scored one run, on four hits and committed two errors, while WSU scored three runs, on seven hits and had two errors.
Dayton's Brown led off the second inning with a home run and the Flyers tacked on two more runs in the third inning on a two-run single by Anne Maci as the Grizzlies trailed 3-0.
OU rallied in the bottom half of the third inning with two runs, highlighted by a two-run double by junior first baseman Katie Dreyer as the game advanced to the fourth inning with UD on top 3-2.
The Flyers tacked on another run in the top of the seventh inning off a Maci RBI double as the Grizzlies trailed by two, 4-2. OU responded with three unearned runs to win the game, as Dreyer and freshman shortstop Kylie Shalz had singles and scored on a throwing error by the UD shortstop as Oakland rallied to win the game 5-4.
The Grizzlies scored five runs, on seven hits and had one error, while Dayton scored four runs, on nine hits and had five errors.
Oakland will conclude play at the MSU Tournament on Sunday with games against Wright State at 10 a.m. and host Morehead State at Noon. OU-MSU can be followed via live stats on ougrizzlies.com.
