Jones Tabbed Mid-Major All-America by CollegeInsider.com

March 31, 2009

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Junior Johnathon Jones became just the second Oakland University men's basketball player to garner Mid-Major All-America honors, selected by CollegeInsider.com on Tuesday. Jones, a native of Okemos, Mich., was also tabbed Summit League Most Valuable Player by CollegeInsider.com.

"I am pleased for JJ and I think anytime you make a postseason All-America team it is well deserved," said OU coach Greg Kampe. "I think if you lead the nation in assists you should make every All-America team."

Jones started every game for the Golden Grizzlies at point guard and leads the nation with a Summit League single-season record 290. His 8.1 assists per game ranks second all-time in school history and led the country. He finished with a 13.3 scoring average and ranks third all-time in league history with 595 assists, second in school history.

Jones joins Mike Helms (2003) as the only other OU player to earn Mid-Major All-America honors. He was named to the All-Summit League first team and all-tournament team after leading the Golden Grizzlies to 23 wins, the second most by any OU squad.

Joining Jones on the squad was North Dakota State's Ben Woodside. Woodside was tabbed Player of the Year by CollegeInsider.com and Oral Roberts' Scott Sutton was tabbed Coach of the Year.
