VALPARAISO, Ind. - Seniors Amanda Scheer, Lisa Lulgjuraj, sophomore Jackie Dinicu, and freshmen Karen Karoub and Caitlin Young all won in straight sets in their singles matches, while the Oakland University women's tennis team (2-1) swept all three doubles matches to pick up a 6-1 win over Valparaiso (1-4) on Sunday at the Matchpoint Tennis Club.
Scheer took a commanding 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles over Valparaiso's Katie Bilyeu, while Karoub won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles over Stephanie York. Young picked up a 6-0, 6-2 win over Christine Antrobus at No. 4 singles, while Dinicu's 6-3, 7-5 win over Jackie O'Reilly came in at No. 5 singles.
Lulguraj cruised at the No. 6 singles spot, winning 6-0, 6-0.
Karoub teamed with senior Lindsay Grimmer, who dropped a 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 decision at No. 1 singles, to pick up an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles over Julie Wingstrom and Bilyeu. Junior Gabrielle Gogas teamed with senior Michelle Maxfield at No. 2 doubles to pick up an 8-2 win over York and Keifer, while Scheer and Young won 8-2 at No. 3 doubles over O'Reilly and Burden.
Oakland will return to action on Saturday, Mar. 7, squaring off against Dayton in Cleveland. A 4 p.m. start is scheduled.
