FARGO,N.D. - Freshman Meghan Bray registered 12 kills while hitting .205, while senior Adrienne Leone turned in a 11-kill effort, but it was not enough for the Oakland University volleyball team (13-5, 6-4 Summit League) as OU fell 3-0 to first-place North Dakota State (14-3, 10-0 Summit League) on Friday at the Bentson Bunker Field House.
"We were not able to get into a consistent offensive flow tonight," said Oakland University head coach Rob Beam. "I credit NDSU for converting on their opportunities and defending us effectively."
North Dakota State won the opening set 25-19, and won sets two and three by identical 25-18 scores. The Bison held a .270 to .118 hitting advantage for the match, hitting a match-high .351 in the opening set and .306 in the second set. Oakland hit a match-best .174 in the final set.
Sophomore Ashley Nevelle dished out 25 assists, and tied junior libero Brittany Dunn for the team lead with 13 digs. Bray also added 12 digs for the Golden Grizzlies. Oakland tallied nine service aces, led by three apiece from Nevelle and sophomore Allison Bell. OU turned in three total team blocks, with freshman Brittany Holbrook leading the way with one block solo and two block assists.
"Meghan played very well tonight," added Beam. "I thought she moved the ball around the court and found kills at key times."
NDSU was led offensively by Chrissy Knuth's 12 kills, while libero Kelly Lopez notched a match-high 25 digs.
Oakland will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 17 as they head to Brookings, S.D. for a Summit League match against South Dakota State. A 5 p.m. start is scheduled.
