ROCHESTER, Mich. - Senior Dan Waterstradt recorded his first double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds, senior Erik Kangas had a game-high 19 points, and junior Johnathon Jones added 10 points and nine assists to lead Oakland University (6-5) to an 88-54 win over Rochester College (10-4) in men's basketball action on Sunday in the Athletics Center O'Rena. The Golden Grizzlies held the Warriors to 28 percent shooting (16-57) and made a season-high 13 3-pointers.
"It was a good win for us," said OU coach Greg Kampe. "It was only our second home game and it's Dec. 14. We shot the ball well -- we're a shooting team and that's probably our best strength. So, it was good to see us make some shots and get confidence in our shooting." I thought, defensively, we were really good in the first half and we played some man-to-man, which we haven't done much of this year."
Also in double figures for the Grizzlies was sophomore Keith Benson with 13 points and five rebounds, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor. Freshman Ilija Milutinovic reached career-highs with 10 rebounds and seven points, while junior John Kast scored a career-high five points with two assists.
The win makes three straight for the Golden Grizzlies, matching last season's longest winning streak. OU won the battle of the glass 39-37 and dished out a season-best 21 assists in the game. Oakland also shot 53 percent from the floor (31-58) and 42 percent from behind the arc (13-31).
Leading Rochester College was DeWayne Watkins with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Adrian Schaffer was the only other Warrior in double figures with 14 points.
The Golden Grizzlies never trailed in the game and led by as many as 37 points in the game. The 34-point victory was the largest this season.
Also getting in to the scoring act for the Golden Grizzlies was senior Ricky Bieszki with a 3-pointer, finishing 1-for-3 from long range.
Oakland will travel to Green Bay (6-3) for a game next Thursday night in Wisconsin. Tip is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET and can be listened to on OU's flagship station WDTW (1310 AM) with Mario Impemba on the call. The game can also be followed via live stats on www.ougrizzlies.com.
