(Apr. 14, 2004)- Oakland (7-20) managed just seven hits but scored four runs in the third to tie things up only to see Notre Dame respond with three runs in the bottom of the inning on its way to handing the Golden Grizzlies a 17-5 defeat at Frank Eck Stadium on Wednesday evening. The Fighting Irish got their runs off of 14 hits, registering four runs to start things off in the first before adding four more in the sixth to cushion the lead. Dominic Carmosino (Cincinnati, Ohio) lasted just 2.2 innings in his fourth loss of the season. He allowed three earned runs on five hits while walking and striking out four batters apiece. After spotting Notre Dame four runs in the first Oakland came back to match that total with two outs in the third.
Tim Doig (Farmington, Mich.) got things started with a double to left center to bring in
Ryan Heath (Ostrander, Ohio). Oakland took advantage of an Irish error to bring in three more runs.
Bryan Marulli (Sterling Heights, Mich.) singled to right center which brought home

Chad Winkler (Port Huron, Mich.) committed an error that seemed to get the Irish bats going. Craig Cooper got it started with a single through the right side to drive in Matt Bransfield. Zach Sisko singled to right field to drive in two of Notre Dame???s four runs in the sixth to stretch the lead to nine. Oakland managed just one more run, which came in the ninth off of a Herriott single with two outs to bring home
Ryan Freiburger (St. Clair Shores, Mich.). Jess Stewart (4-0) remained perfect on the season in the win. He went five innings, allowing just one earned run on five hits. Oakland gave up six unearned runs on four errors. The Golden Grizzlies return home for their Mid-Con opener this Saturday as they face Southern Utah in a doubleheader at 12:00 p.m. to start the weekend series.
