Rochester, Mich. (Oct. 12, 2004) ???C Oakland???s women???s tennis team closed out the fall portion of its season today with a match against cross-town rival Detroit. The Titans had the upper hand in this matchup, sweeping the doubles matches on their way to a 5-2 win over the Golden Grizzlies. Junior
Lisa Pellafone (Rochester, Mich.) led an OU sweep of the top two singles flights with a win at No. 1 singles. After sweeping the doubles matches to take the early 1-0 lead, the two teams split the first four singles matches played. Pellafone picked up her first win of the season in her match, downing Holly Smith in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
Teuta Lulgjuraj (Warren, Mich.) picked up OU???s second point of the day with her straight sets win at No. 2 singles, defeating Kaitlin McVehil 6-4, 6-1. That would be all the matches that Oakland would pick up, however, as the Titans got wins in the rest of the singles matches to go on to the win. Finished with the fall portion of the schedule, Oakland will not take the courts again until February when it plays at Cleveland State on Feb. 11.
