TOLEDO, Ohio – In their final team competition of the fall, the Oakland women's tennis team went 6-3 in doubles play and 10-8 in singles play, including a perfect 6-0 performance from Edie Hammond at the Rocket Indoor Invitational.

Oakland competed against Toledo, Cleveland State, and Dayton in the invitational. Doubles pairings for the Black and Gold remained the same as last week's WSU Doubles Tournament.

On day one, the Golden Grizzlies faced Horizon League competitor Cleveland State in both doubles and singles play. Hammond and Emilia Jarvinen notched the only doubles win against the Vikings, beating their opponents 6-4. In singles play, Oakland dominated, going 5-1, including a sweep in the Blue Singles. The women would finish 6-3 overall against CSU.

Competition against Dayton was split between the two days. In singles, OU had a second sweep in Blue Singles, with Hammond adding another Gold Singles victory. Oakland was 4-2 in singles against the Flyers. Doubles play on day two featured wins from Hammond/Jarvinen and Tara Montreuil/Nisa Bulut, helping Oakland to a 6-3 overall result versus Dayton. 

The Golden Grizzlies faced the host Toledo on the final day of the tournament. Doubles play was all Black and Gold, sweeping all three doubles pairings. However, singles play belonged to the Rockets. Throughout the tournament, Toledo had won every singles match up until facing Oakland. Hoping to go 18-0, Hammond finally handed the team their first singles loss, keeping her undefeated tournament streak alive. The women finished 1-5 against Toledo in singles play, and 4-5 overall.

Hammond becomes the second Golden Grizzly to go undefeated in a tournament this season, joining Martyna Piechowicz in the exciting accomplishment.
