Falcons Prey on Golden Grizzlies in Baseball Doubleheader

Box Score Box Score Bowling Green, Ohio???C Oakland suffered a pair of losses to Bowling Green this afternoon at Warren Steller Field. They were blanked the first game 4-0 before going down by a 6-2 count in game two. The Golden Grizzlies are on a four-game losing streak, their longest of the season since going 0-3 to start. Kyle Knoblauch got his first shutout of the season, going the distance in the first game. He struck out seven batters, and did not give up any walks or runs on four hits. Oakland went three up, three down to start the first inning, while Bowling Green did not waste any time getting two runs on the board in the bottom half of the inning. Dominic Carmosino???s (Cincinnati, Ohio) outing was not as industrious as Oakland???s starting pitcher. A throwing error by the Golden Grizzlies??? second baseman allowed Bowling Green???s David Barkholz to reach second base after he led off the inning with a bunt single. He later advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt, before coming around to score on a passed ball. Carmosino walked Nolan Reimold who stole second before scoring on an RBI single by Kelly Hunt. Oakland had something going in the third as Brian Keim singled down the left field line with one out. Jeff Hall (Perrysburg, Ohio) hit a bunt single the very next at bat before Brad Leach (Shelby Twp., Mich.) flied out to center field to advance Keim to third. With runners at the corners Ryan Freiburger (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) stepped to the plate, representing the go-ahead run for Oakland. But Freiburger grounded out to third base to end the inning and leave two stranded. After that it was three up, three down the rest of the way for the Golden Grizzlies, giving Knoblauch his second win of the season. Carmosino received little help from his defense in his fifth loss as Oakland committed four errors during the game. Oakland started the second game by taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Leach stole second base after getting on with a single to center field. With two outs and the bases loaded, Bowling Green???s Tyler Saneholtz, walked Ty Herriott (Ostrander, Ohio) to bring in Leach. Steve Kneibbe (Bridgeport, Mich.) struck out looking to end the inning. The Falcons came back with a three-run first inning to erase Oakland???s short-lived advantage. Barkholz led off the inning, reaching first base on a fielding error by Oakland pitcher, Brent Brown (Niles, Mich.). Hunt doubled to right field later in the inning to bring home two runs, which was followed by an RBI single from Nate Henschen. After walking the next batter to load the bases, Brown struck out the next two to get himself out of the jam. Bowling Green added another run in the fifth inning as Reimold scored on a fielding error by left fielder John Sullivan (Saginaw, Mich.). In the seventh Will Tollison (Toledo, Ohio) started things off for Oakland with a double down the left field line. Leach put down a sacrifice bunt on the next play to bring Tollison home. Bowling Green scored two more runs over the next two innings to give Saneholtz his second win of the season while Brown suffered his first loss. Oakland is now 12-11 on the season as the Falcons improved to 8-11. The Golden Grizzlies are home for their next game on Tuesday as they face Toledo at 3:00 p.m.
