The Oakland University baseball team used a six-run sixth-inning to defeat crosstown rival Eastern Michigan, 11-3, in baseball action this afternoon at Oestrike Field in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Dominic Carmosino (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier). Oakland improves to 2-13, while Eastern Michigan falls to 3-13. Oakland came out strong scoring three runs in the opening inning for a quick 3-0 lead. Carmosino held the Eagles to two runs through the first six innings, allowing OU to score six more runs in the top of the sixth inning, for a 9-0 lead. EMU added its second run of the game in the bottom half, as the Grizzlies led 9-1. Oakland scored its final runs of the game in the seventh with two more as they surrendered one last run in the final inning for the 11-3 victory. Oakland had 11 runs on 10 hits and two errors, while Eastern Michigan had three runs on eight hits and two errors. Carmosino improved to 1-3 on the season, pitching seven innings, allowing two runs and one earned run, while striking out seven EMU hitters. Leading Oakland offensively was
Matt Gabrielli (Novi/Novi HS) and
Erik Crossley (Woodhaven/Woodhaven HS). Gabrielli went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Crossley finished the game with a 2-for-4 performance, with a double and three RBI. Oakland will face Madonna University tomorrow afternoon on the OU Baseball Field. The game will start at 3 p.m. and will be a single 9-inning game.
