PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Senior Robert Burns captured the first collegiate title of his career and tied the Oakland University men's golf program record for the lowest 54-hole tournament score on Tuesday at the RedHawk Intercollegiate.

Burns finished the invitational with a final score of nine-under 204 (67-68-69) at the Pittsburgh Field Club (par-71, 6,828 yards), recording an under-par score in each round. He shared the individual championship with Butler's Nicholas Brooks.

With this achievement, Burns joins former men's golf alum Thomas Giroux in the record book for the lowest 54-hole tournament score. Giroux set the mark in October 2021, when he won the Georgia State Invitational with a score of 12-under 204 (68-66-70).

During the RedHawk Intercollegiate, Burns ranked among the top five in several major categories. He led the field with 16 birdies and tied for third in eagles made with his 509-yard three-stroke score on the par-5 fifth hole during the first round. He also tied for fourth in par-5 average with a 4.33 and tied for fifth in both par-3 (3.07) and par-4 (3.93) averages.

Burns secured his co-championship victory with a 117-yard drive and sank an 18-foot putt for birdie on the 135-yard, par-3 fourth hole.

As a team, the Golden Grizzlies finished tied for eighth place with a team score of 861 (+9), placing ahead of fellow Horizon League competitors Robert Morris (878) in 11th place and Cleveland State (879) in 12th place.

Junior Brennan Sullivan was the next leading golfer for Oakland, shooting two-under 69 in both the first and second rounds. He finished tied for 20th with a one-over 214 and recorded the team's only other eagle, matching Burns with a three-stroke score on the par-5 fifth hole during the final round.

Senior Matteo Rocco and freshman Marshall Morency finished within one stroke of each other. Rocco tied for 40th at five-over 218 and led the team with 37 pars, while Morency tied for 48th as an individual with a six-over 219 and recorded nine birdies in his collegiate debut.

Rounding out Oakland's team were redshirt senior Jack Zubkus and freshman Noah Andry. Zubkus maintained consistent play throughout each round and tied for 64th with a 225 (+12). Andry finished 81st in his first collegiate invitational.
