ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland men's golf team opens the 2026-27 season at the RedHawk Intercollegiate, hosted by Miami University (Ohio), Sept. 14-15 at the Pittsburgh Field Club in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Oakland returns to the RedHawk Intercollegiate for the first time since the 2022-23 season. The Golden Grizzlies placed 13th in the 14-team field during the spring portion of that season. While none of Oakland's current roster competed in the invitational, graduate assistant coach Yaroslav Ilyenko, an Oakland men's golf alumnus, competed that season, tied for 42nd as a junior.
The 13-team field includes host Miami (Ohio), Ball State, Bowling Green State, Butler, Cleveland State, Dayton, Loyola Maryland, Oakland, Ohio, Robert Morris, Seton Hall, and Virginia Commonwealth (VCU). Notre Dame and LSU will also compete, with individuals participating in the invitational.
Head coach Darin Hudak will officially begin his first season as a collegiate head coach at the RedHawk Intercollegiate. After spending one season as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Bowling Green State, Hudak steps into his new role alongside assistant coach James Dewling. Together, they aim to lead the Golden Grizzlies to their first Horizon League championship since the 2020-21 season.
Oakland's starting five features senior returners Matteo Rocco, Robert Burns, and Jack Zubkus, junior returner Brennan Sullivan, and freshman newcomer Noah Andry. Paired with Butler, Loyola Maryland, and Ohio, the Golden Grizzlies will tee off on holes 10-13. Freshman Marshall Morency will make his collegiate debut as an individual, competing alongside golfers from Miami (OH), Cleveland State, and Robert Morris.
Live stats for each round will be available on Clippd.
