Day, Revere Homer as Oakland Falls at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Oakland (10-36, 5-16 HL) dropped a 15-5 game in eight innings against Notre Dame (26-20, 11-16 ACC) on Saturday afternoon at Frank Eck Stadium. Despite a pair of home runs, the Golden Grizzlies were unable to overcome Notre Dame's eight-run fifth inning.

Redshirt-sophomore Lucas Day made an impact on offense by collecting a home run and tallying two RBIs. Redshirt-sophomore Sam Griffith also tabbed on two RBIs, as fifth-year Kyle Revere added to the team's efforts with a home run and scored two runs. Junior Aidan Orr was active at the plate, finishing with two hits and scoring a run.

Oakland opened the scoring in the first inning, as junior Ben Clark reached third base on a series of errors and scored on Griffith's sacrifice bunt.

In the third inning, Oakland extended its lead with Revere stealing second base before scoring on a groundout by Griffith. Day followed with a two-run home run deep into right field, bringing Orr home and increasing the lead. Notre Dame responded with a sacrifice fly to score a run, leaving the score at 4-1 in favor of the Golden Grizzlies through three innings.

The fifth inning shifted momentum to Notre Dame, which scored eight runs. The sequence included a trio of RBI singles, along with a two-RBI single, concluding with the Fighting Irish leading 9-4.

In the seventh inning, Revere hit a solo home run for Oakland. However, Notre Dame added two more runs, including a solo shot into center and a run scored on a throwing error, bringing the score to 11-5 in favor of Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish walked off the ballgame in the eighth after a ground-rule double brought home two runs, followed by a pair of RBI singles.

Grad senior Ethan Glassman started on the rubber for Oakland, pitching 4.2 innings while allowing seven runs on seven hits, with a strikeout. Junior Jordan Dahlof followed with two innings of relief, surrendering four runs on five hits as freshman Tagertt Dillard entered in the seventh, pitching an inning, while striking out two.

The Golden Grizzlies and the Fighting Irish will wrap up the series tomorrow, May 10, at Frank Eck Stadium. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. ET on ACCNX.
