SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The Oakland Golden Grizzlies (10-37, 5-16 HL) fell to Notre Dame (27-20, 11-16 ACC) with a 9-3 final score on Sunday at Frank Eck Stadium. Despite the loss, Oakland outhit the Fighting Irish, collecting 10 hits, including four doubles.
Sophomore
Aidan Schuck was perfect at the plate today, going 3-for-3, including two doubles and scoring twice. Junior
Ben Clark added two hits and drove in one run, as senior
Jaxson Easterlin delivered a strong performance on the mound, pitching three scoreless innings and allowing only a hit. Redshirt-senior
Jack Lux recorded a hit and the first RBI for the Black and Gold, bringing his hitting streak to four games.
Notre Dame took an early lead in the first inning, scoring three runs off of an RBI groundout, a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice fly.
Coming into the second frame, Oakland responded as Schuck doubled and scored on Lux's single to right field. However, the Irish added another run in the bottom half with a double followed up by an RBI double, extending their lead to 4-1.
The Irish widened their lead in the third with a ground-rule double that brought in two runs, and a bases-loaded walk.
Oakland narrowed the deficit in the fifth inning. Schuck doubled and scored on a redshirt-sophomore
Boston Halloran's infield single. Halloran later scored on a single by Clark, cutting the Irish's lead to four runs.
Notre Dame added to its lead in the seventh with a solo home run, extending the game. In the eighth inning, a bases-loaded balk allowed another to score, making it 9-3.
Freshman
Josh Rosenblitt garnered his first Sunday start for OU, allowing three earned runs on one hit in just 2/3 innings. Easterlin provided stability from the bullpen, pitching three shutout innings, conceding only one hit and one walk. Grad senior
Camden Cooper allowed two earned runs over two innings of work, surrendering just three hits as juniors
George Hansen and
Ryan Donley also saw time on the bump for Oakland today.
The Golden Grizzlies are back at the Den for the final time this season to host Akron for a mid-day education game on Tuesday, May 12. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
