TOLEDO, Ohio — Oakland University (10-30, 5-13 HL) fell to Toledo (21-24, 15-9 MAC), 18-8 in seven innings on Wednesday at Scott Park. The visitors managed a six-run seventh inning, but couldn't overcome the hosts' dominant fourth frame. The Golden Grizzlies recorded nine hits, including one home run, while Toledo tallied 16 hits and matched Oakland with a single home run.
Grad senior
Carter Hain led Oakland with a home run, accounting for two RBIs, and scoring twice in the game. Sophomore
Aidan Schuck also contributed with two RBIs and added a hit and a stolen base, while redshirt-senior
Jack Lux was effective on the base paths, scoring two runs and delivering two hits. Junior
Ben Clark recorded two hits and an RBI, adding to the team's offensive output.
Oakland jumped ahead in the second inning with Hain's two-run homer deep into center field, bringing in Lux, who had reached on a single and advanced to second on a steal. Toledo responded by reducing the deficit in the bottom of the third inning off of an RBI groundout.
Toledo surged ahead in the fourth inning, plating 11 runs. A series of singles and walks, two two-run RBI doubles, contributed to the rally as the Rockets led 12-2 after four innings. In the sixth inning, the home team extended its lead with a three-run homer.
Oakland rallied in the seventh inning, scoring six runs, sending the game into the bottom half of the seventh. Lux scored on a wild pitch, Clark delivered a sacrifice fly, and fifth-year
Kyle Revere grounded out to score another. Schuck singled to drive in two runs, and redshirt-sophomore
Tony Konopiots stole home, narrowing the gap to 15-8. However, Toledo added three more runs in their half to secure an 18-8 run-rule victory.

Will Paxson was solid and started for Oakland, pitching 3.0 innings while allowing four earned runs on three hits, with two strikeouts. Junior
Ryan Donley came in relief, giving up four earned runs on three hits. Sophomore
Daniel Duley pitched 1.0 inning of work, surrendering four earned runs as grad senior
Camden Cooper threw for 2.0 innings. Redshirt-sophomore
Boston Halloran closed the game, allowing 3 earned runs on 4 hits in 1/3 inning.
Oakland will be back at The Den for their final weekend home series of the season May 1-3 as they host Wright State at the OU Baseball Field. First pitch on Friday to kick off Senior/Alumni Weekend is slated for 3 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
