HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. — Oakland (10-29, 5-13 HL) dropped the series finale at Northern Kentucky (20-22, 9-9 HL), 9–3, on Sunday at Bill Aker Complex. Oakland managed to score three runs on eight hits, with two runs in the seventh inning providing a brief offensive spark. The Norse secured the win with consistent scoring across the first five innings.
Junior
Ben Clark collected two hits and scored a run in the game, as sophomore
Aidan Schuck also added two hits and crossed home plate once. Redshirt-sophomore
Tony Konopiots tallied two hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Freshman right-hander
Ben Green pitched 3.2 innings, recording two strikeouts while allowing seven earned runs.
Northern Kentucky took the early lead, scoring in each of the first five innings, capitalized by a pair of home runs.
The Golden Grizzlies got on the board in the sixth inning. A throwing error allowed Clark to score, who had singled to get on base.
In the seventh inning, Oakland narrowed the gap further. An RBI double by Konopiots scored Schuck, followed by an RBI single from grad senior
Carter Hain that brought home Konopiots. This cut Northern Kentucky's lead to six runs, before the final out.
Green started on the mound for Oakland, pitching 3.2 innings and allowing seven earned runs on seven hits, while striking out two. Junior
Blake Sehlke followed, pitching 1/3 of an inning, giving up a hit, before junior
Owen Thomson pitched 2 innings in relief, allowing two earned runs on two hits, with two strikeouts. Senior
Jaxson Easterlin and junior
Jordan Dahlof each pitched an inning of work, with each going scoreless and allowing only a hit.
The Golden Grizzlies are back to work on Wednesday, April 29, traveling to Toledo to take on the Rockets in midweek fashion. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. ET.
