INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – On Wednesday, the league announced that juniors Edie Hammond and Emilia Jarvinen were named this week's #HLTEN Doubles Team of the Week, with Jarvinen also earning the #HLTEN Singles Player of the Week honor.

The pair received the recognition for the week of March 11-17 after Oakland defeated Milwaukee at home, 4-3. The league opener moved the Golden Grizzlies to 1-0 in conference play, and both juniors played key roles in the victory.

At Bloomfield Tennis & Fitness, Hammond and Jarvinen cruised to a 6-2 win on the No. 1 doubles court. The duo, who reached the semifinals of the Horizon League Individual Championships before falling to the eventual champions in a nail-biting 8-7(11-9) match, have now improved their record to 8-3 this winter, including a near-perfect 6-1 mark on the No. 1 court.

In singles, Jarvinen battled through a long first set, going into extra points before securing a 7-6(3) win as other courts began to wrap up and Oakland's score started to climb. With a 3-2 lead, the Golden Grizzlies needed one more point to clinch the match, and Jarvinen delivered, taking the second set 6-3. Her straight-sets win on the No. 5 court sealed the league victory over the Panthers.

Hammond and Jarvinen each earned their first #HLTEN honors of the season, following sophomore Martyna Piechowicz and freshman Oliwia Klimas, who both earned Singles Player of the Week honors in late January and early February. The team takes on Wayne State on  March 21 before returning to finish out league competition for the rest of the season.
