INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The league announced on Wednesday that freshman
Oliwia Klimas has been named the #HLTEN Singles Player of the Week, following her impressive undefeated performance during Oakland's in-state trip over
Klimas earned the honor for the week of January 28 to February 3 after securing two victories over the weekend against Northwood and Eastern Michigan as the No. 3 player. She led the Golden Grizzlies in singles matches, contributing to the team's first victory of the season against the Timberwolves.
In her match against Northwood, Klimas battled in a tight first set but secured the win, 7-6(5), in a tiebreaker. From there, she then quickly took control in the second set, defeating Northwood's Giada Ciampa 6-3, winning the match in straight sets.
Later, Klimas competed against Eastern Michigan, where she once again won in straight sets, defeating Sabrina Tolstova with scores of 6-2 and 6-3. Despite Klimas's strong performance and contributing to a three-match winning streak for the Golden Grizzlies, the team ultimately fell to the Eagles due to an injury, finishing the match 3-4.
With the regular season just beginning, Klimas aims to add more victories to her resume and further her team's success. Oakland returns on the road on Saturday, facing Dayton on February 7 and Miami (OH) on February 8.
