ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland women's tennis team will remain in Michigan for its first pair of matches this season, facing Northwood and Eastern Michigan on January 30 and 31.

The Golden Grizzlies (0-1) suffered a 2-5 loss to Toledo (1-0) in their season opener. The team secured the doubles point with a strong performance, as sophomore Nisa Bulut and freshman Charlotte Holmes, along with juniors Emilia Jarvinen and Edie Hammond, each won their respective doubles matches. In singles play, Jarvinen was the standout, securing the only point for Oakland in singles play and maintaining her undefeated record against the Rockets in the match. 

This marks the second consecutive year that Oakland will take this in-state weekend trip. Last season, the Golden Grizzlies returned home victorious, winning both matches against Northwood and EMU by a score of 5-2.

SCOUTING THE TIMBERWOLVES
Northwood (0-0) will begin its season with the match against Oakland. The Timberwolves competed in three invitationals during the fall and look to start their regular season on a better note compared to last year.

Oakland and Northwood have faced each other only once before, during last year's weekend in-state trip, where the Golden Grizzlies won the doubles point and secured four singles points for the match victory. Jarvinen and Bulut aim to continue their singles success against the Timberwolves, as both won their matchups last year.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Eastern Michigan (5-0) began its season on January 17, defeating fellow Horizon League competitor, Cleveland State, 6-1. Since then, the Eagles have been undefeated in regular-season play. 

Oakland frequently faces Eastern, as the two have played nearly every year since the 2009-10 season. At the EMU Invitational during the fall, the Golden Grizzlies were 3-1 against the Eagles, winning two singles matches and a doubles match. In their last regular-season meeting during the in-state weekend trip, Oakland replicated its performance against Northwood, winning the doubles point and four singles points to take the victory—the first since 2021-22, when they played each other in Orlando, Florida.
