Golden Grizzlies Prep for Tilt at Milwaukee

ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland Men's Basketball Team is heading to Wisconsin for a two-game roadtrip, starting with a game against the preseason favorites, the Milwaukee Panther, in downtown Milwaukee for Oakland's second nationally televised Horizon League contest on Thursday, Jan. 15 at 7 p.m. ET.

Despite a strong second-half effort, Oakland (9-9, 5-2 HL) fell to Wright State 94-84 on Sunday inside a packed OU Credit Union O'rena.

Senior Brody Robinson led the team with a commanding career-high 35 points, including four three-pointers, and added in four steals. His impressive performance included setting a season-high by making 9 field goals. Fifth-year Tuburu Naivalurua contributed 15 points, converting five of eight free throws, and collected six rebounds. Junior Khoi Thurmon scored a season-high nine points and recorded three steals and despite seeing limited time on the court due to foul trouble, junior Isaac Garrett posted two blocks and tallied six points in 18 minutes.

Last week, Garrett was named the Under Armour Horizon League Player of the Week for the first time in his career. Garrett led the Golden Grizzlies to a 2-1 record over the week in Horizon League action, picking up big wins over Youngstown State and defending Horizon League Champion, Robert Morris. The Pleasant Grove, Utah native hit career-highs, scoring 27 points against the Penguins and hit 30 points against the Colonials at home. The 6-8 forward earned his third double-double of the season in Youngstown, along with the 27 points, picking up a season-high 14 rebounds off the glass. He earned his way into the Oakland record book, going 16-for-16 from the line, now the third-most free-throw attempts with 100% accuracy.

Tip-off in Milwaukee will be available to watch live on ESPNU with Jordan Berfield (PxP) and Tim McCormick (Color) on the call. The "Voice of the Golden Grizzlies", Neal Ruhl, will be on radio on 97.1HD-3/1270am or the Audacy App online.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
Opening up the 2025-26 season as the preseason favorites just above Oakland, head coach Bart Lundy just eclipsed his 500th career win as the Panthers are 8-10 overall and 4-3 in the Horizon League. Milwaukee also saw three named to the Preseason All-League team in Amar Augillard, Faizon Fields, and Seth Hubbard. Having missed time on the court since December due to injury, Hubbard is leading the Panthers with 16.6 points/game in nine games this year, followed up by Danilo Jovanovich and, Augillard.

Oakland leads the all-time series dating back to 1969 at 17-15 overall, with a 7-11 record in Milwaukee. The Golden Grizzlies took care of the three-seeded Panthers as a Horizon League Tournament underdog on the road, 72-64, to advance to the semifinals in 2025.
