Baseball Closes Regular Season With Series Win over Panthers

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies finished the 2025 regular season strong, earning a pair of wins over the Milwaukee Panthers in an eventful final week of baseball.

GAME 1

The Golden Grizzlies pulled out a heroic win off the bat of Sam Griffith, who's RBI single in the 11th inning lifted Oakland to the 6-5 inning victory.

After a 1-1 tie coming out of the first inning, Oakland scored three runs in the fourth, with an RBI double from John Lauinger and a fielder's choice by Boston Halloran as the Golden Grizzlies took a 4-1 lead.

The teams would trade runs once again in the fifth inning, as Justin Hausser doubled to score for Milwaukee, while Matt McGann slammed an RBI single to answer back for Oakland as the score read 5-2.

The Panthers would surge their way back into the game, using an RBI single by Bradyn Horn in the sixth and a two-run homer from Tyler Bickers in the seventh inning knotted the game.

After three scoreless innings from both sides, Oakland would end the drought in the bottom of the 11th inning. Carter Hain would earn his first hit of the game with a leadoff double down the right field line. After moving over on a throwing error and a Halloran grounder, Griffith stepped up and delivered big time, belting a ball down the left field line to end the game and earn his first walk-off hit as a Golden Grizzly.

Griffith went 2-for-5 on the day, joining Taylor Tomlin (2-for-5), McGann (2-for-5, 2 RBI), and Lauinger (3-for-5, 2 RBI) as Oakland players with multiple hits.

Ethan Glassman earned his third win of the season on the mound, contributing to an excellent bullpen effort for Oakland. Austin Fisher, Ryan Donley, Andrew Landis, Luke Riggs, and Glassman combined to pitch three innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just two hits to secure the game.

GAME 2

With the momentum in their favor, Oakland was able to clinch the series win in game two with a 5-3 win behind two monstrous home runs by Rice and Jack Lux.

Trent Rice started the game on a high note for Oakland, as in the very first Golden Grizzly at bat he launched a solo bomb over the left field scoreboard to give Oakland a quick 1-0 lead.

Another run would be tacked onto the lead in the third inning after a Taylor Tomlin RBI single. Milwaukee would briefly take the lead behind a three-run fourth inning, as Justin Hauser went yard and Camden Kuhnke knocked a two-RBI double as the Panthers led 3-2.

The Golden Grizzlies would claw back in the next two innings as Jack Lux sent a moonshot over the fence for his fifth home run to tie the game in the fourth. They would seal the deal in the fifth inning with a Tomlin RBI bunt single and a Nigh brought a run through with a sacrifice bunt to score the final run of the game.

Rice had a standout game for Oakland, going 3-for-4 with an RBI, a home run, three runs scored, and three stolen bases. Tomlin joined Rice, going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.

GAME 3

The Golden Grizzlies weren't able to pick up the sweep as the bats went silent in the series finale, as they fell 11-0 in eight innings.

The Panthers tallied eight extra base hits in the game, including two doubles each from Justin Hausser and Teige Lethert, along with two home runs from Caden Headlee in the effort.

Oakland's best chance to score came in the bottom of the first inning. After a hit by pitch to McGann and a walk to Nigh, a wild pitch advanced them to third and second base, but the Golden grizzlies were unable to capitalize.

Oakland tallied just two hits, one each from McGann and Griffith, as the momentum swung to Milwaukee to close the series.

Prior to the game Oakland honored eight seniors as a part of Senior Day Celebrations, recognizing the careers of Gavin Arsenau, Josh Korson, Liam Pollock, Hunter Pidek, Brandon Nigh, Gage Smith, Matt McGann, and John Lauinger.

The Golden Grizzlies will await their fate and seeding for the 2025 #HLBASE Championship, which begins Wednesday, May 21.
