Golden Grizzlies Can't Finish Off Rally as they Fall to Rockets at Home

ROCHESTER Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies fell short of a rally at home, as they couldn't keep pace with Toledo in a 5-8 game.

Oakland would score first on a Jack Lux sacrifice fly in the second inning, taking a 1-0 lead, but the Rockets quickly responded with a five-run third inning, accumulating four of their eight hits during the game in the frame, taking a 5-1 lead.

In the fourth inning Sam Griffith would rake a RBI double to left field adding to Oakland's tally, but Toledo once again responded with a pair of runs in the sixth inning to take a 7-2 lead.

As the game winded down, the Golden Grizzlies finally struck back, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. A John Lauinger RBI double broke Oakland's three-inning scoreless streak, followed by a Carter Hain RBI single, and closed out by Hain crossing home himself on a wild pitch as Oakland trailed just 5-7.

Toledo added an insurance run in the top of the eighth, closing the scoring on the day as they escaped Oakland with a win.

Oakland struggled at the plate, making solid contact but getting unlucky at times with hard hit balls straight to Toledo outfielders. Lauinger (2-for-5), Nigh (2-for-5), and Hain (2-for-5) all registered multiple hits in the effort.

Nigh also made an appearance on the mound, throwing the last inning for the Golden Grizzlies, forcing a 1-2-3 inning in a preview of what could be a potential strategy for the team's bullpen as the postseason moves closer.

Daniel Duley also threw 2.1 innings of scoreless ball, striking out a pair of batters and allowing just one baserunner in his time on the bump.

The Golden Grizzlies now prepare for their weekend series against Purdue Fort Wayne, beginning Friday, May 2 at 3 p.m.
