Lauinger Slams Walk-Off Double to Lift Oakland over Chippewas

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies earned their second consecutive win, beating Central Michigan (CMU) in dramatic fashion as John Lauinger's RBI double in the 11th inning walked it off for Oakland.

The teams would alternate blows all-game, seemingly one after the next, as CMU opened the scoring as Cole Kwiatkowski hit a solo home run in the second. Oakland responded in the third with a Matt McGann two-RBI single put Oakland up a score..

The Chippewas would counter with four unanswered runs, highlighted by back-to-back homers from Cole Prout and Rees Campanale as they regained a 6-2 lead by the middle of the eighth.

The Golden Grizzlies continued to fight, scoring five runs in the bottom of the eighth. Carter Hain kicked off the clutch inning with a two-RBI triple. Hain would later score of a Boston Halloran RBI single, and was followed up by another huge two-RBI triple, this time off the bat of Sam Griffith as Oakland took an 8-7 lead with the game winding to a close.

With their backs against the wall and three outs to avoid a loss, the Chippewas came up with a game-tying RBI double by Aaron Piasecki to knot the game at eight, and eventually take the game into extras.

After a scoreless tenth, the Golden Grizzlies took the game over with two swings in the 11th. First, Sam Griffith came up clutch again with a leadoff single, setting up John Lauinger for a walk-off RBI double to end the day with an Oakland win.

Lauinger (3-for-5, RBI) and Griffith (3-for5, 2 RBI) led all Oakland hitters at the plate, joined by Boston Halloran (3-for-5, RBI) as they helped Oakland tally 10-plus hits for the fourth time in five games.

The Golden Grizzlies bullpen was active in this one, with six pitchers taking the mound as Brody Fahnestock earned the win, tossing an inning of scoreless baseball. Daniel Duley, who started the game, also had a solid game as he tossed 4.1 innings, striking out four batters.

Oakland travels to Highland Heights this weekend to take on Northern Kentucky in a three-game series, beginning on Friday, Apr. 25 at 3 p.m.
