MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Golden Grizzlies couldn't escape Milwaukee with multiple wins, falling two games to one in their weekend series to the second place Panthers.
GAME 1
The Golden Grizzlies struggled at the plate to open the series, going scoreless in the opener a they fell 0-5.
Milwaukee would score in bunches, using a solo homer from Charlie Marion along with a RBI double from Teige Lethert in the second inning to. take the early lead. A two-run Caden Hadlee dinger in the sixth and Marion grounder in the seventh would seal the deal for the Panthers.
Despite the loss,
Hunter Pidek had another solid outing as he still searches for his first win of the season. He tossed six innings, striking out six batters, marking the fourth time this season.
Oakland tied Milwaukee in hits with six, but left seven runners on base over the course of the game. Matt McGann (2-for-3) was the only Golden Grizzly to earn multiple hits.
GAME 2
The second game could not have been any more opposite from the opener for Oakland, as the bats lit on fire for the Golden Grizzlies, guiding them to a 9-7 shootout win.
McGann continued a sensational series, slamming a three-RBI double in the third inning to give Oakland a 3-1 lead.
Taylor Tomlin and
Sam Griffith would add runs via RBI singles in the fifth and sixth innings, and were followed up by a two-run no-doubter by
Carter Hain in the seventh as Oakland took an 8-2 lead.
The lead would balloon to 9-2 before the end of the eighth inning, but the Panthers would try to storm back in the bottom portion of the inning, scoring three runs. They would add two runs in the bottom of the ninth on a two-run home run from Thomas Otto, but it would be too little, too late as
Ryan Donley closed out the game for Oakland on the mound.
McGann (2-for-4, 3 RBI),
John Lauinger (2-for-4), Griffith (2-for-4, RBI) and
Trent Rice (2-for-4, 2 doubles) led the dynamite offensive game for Oakland.
Game 3
The series would close with another high-octane affair, but with the Panthers coming out on top with a 10-7 win.
Despite Oakland jumping out to a 5-2 lead in the fourth inning behind a McGann two-run homer, the Panthers would chip away at the lead, eventually going off for five runs in the sixth inning behind two RBI singles, a RBI triple from Justin Hausser, and a two-run shot from Phillips to take a 10-6 lead over Oakland.
Trent Rice added a RBI double in the seventh inning as Oakland tried to begin a rally, but the well ran dry as they dropped the final game of the series.
The Golden Grizzlies would leave 10 runners on base throughout the game, needing just a small bit more of timely hitting to lift them over the hump.
Boston Halloran (2-for-5) led Oakland in hits, while McGann (2 RBI) and Lauinger (2 RBI) both brought home multiple runs.
The Golden Grizzlies will gear up for a home matchup with the top-of-the-league Wright State Raiders next weekend, starting on Thursday, Apr. 17.
