Golden Grizzlies Handle Zips in Dominant Victory

ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies started off the week on a positive note, speeding past the visiting Akron Zips en route to an impressive 8-2 win on their home field.

Stepping to the plate in the bottom of the first already down one, Oakland quickly made up ground as Matthew McGann, Carter Hain, and Jack Lux all registered RBI triples in their first at-bats, helping the squad leap out to a 4-1 lead by the end of the first inning.

McGann would continue a strong showing in the second inning, knocking through RBI number two on the day as another RBI single plated a run, jumping Oakland's lead to 5-1.

Hain would follow suit in the fourth inning with another RBI single, and Brandon Nigh in the sixth inning with a two-RBI single as the Golden Grizzlies cruised at the plate en route to an 8-1 lead.

The Zips would tack on another run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning, but the buck stopped there as Jaxson Easterlin pitched the final two innings, retiring all six batters he faced and striking out three as the Golden Grizzlies earned the win.

Oakland registered 12 hits, compared to seven by Akron. Hain's three hits (3-for-5, 2 RBI) led the way, while Lauinger (2-for-4), Nigh (2-for-4, 2 RBI), and McGann (2-for-5, 2 RBI) all registered multiple hits as well.

Ryan Uhlenhake earned his first win of the season on the hill, striking out four batters in two innings of work. Oakland pitched by committee in this one, as Daniel Duley had a solid start on the mound, also pitching two innings and striking out four batters. Blake Sehlke, Tanner Ware, and Easterlin provided relief, allowing just one combined earned run on the day.

The Golden Grizzlies return for their last home game of the week as they host Cleary on Wednesday, Mar. 26 at 3 p.m.
