Box Score 2 IRVINE, CA – The Oakland women's tennis team wrapped up its California road trip with a 1-1 record, securing a 5-2 victory over the University of Redlands on Feb. 25 before falling to UC Irvine 7-0 on Feb. 26.
Against Redlands, the Golden Grizzlies put together a strong performance, winning two of three doubles matches to claim the doubles point. The duo of
Emilia Jarvinen and Warisara "Best" Lee secured a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while
Nisa Bulut and
Josie Ward clinched a 6-4 victory at No. 3. In singles, Oakland took four of six matches, with Bulut, Lee, Ward, and
Martyna Piechowicz all earning straight-set wins to seal the team victory.
Facing a tough UC Irvine squad the next day, Oakland battled but was ultimately swept 7-0. The Golden Grizzlies pushed multiple matches to third-set tiebreakers, including No. 2 singles, where Bulut fought hard before falling 6-4, 3-6, 10-7, and No. 6 singles, where Piechowicz narrowly lost 5-7, 7-5, 10-6. Doubles action saw Jarvinen and Lee leading 5-4 in their unfinished match at No. 1, while UC Irvine claimed wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to take the early advantage.
With the split results, Oakland moves to 3-5 on the season as they continue preparing for Horizon League play.
