BEAUMONT, Texas - The Golden Grizzlies fell to the Lamar University Cardinals, 15-2, this afternoon at Vincent-Beck Stadium on the tail-end of four games in four days, spanned across two states.
The Golden Grizzlies (1-7, 0-0 HL) were led by
John Lauinger who tallied two hits, as
Daniel Duley struck six out with just one earned in 4.1 innings pitched.
The Cardinals (8-1, 0-0 SLC) had five players with a duo of hits, as Trent Baker led with four RBI.
John Lauinger led-off with a single but was the only hit Oakland got in the first, as Lamar came out and tallied a hit during its first four at-bats. The Cardinals eventually got six across the plate in the first, putting Oakland down early. The team recovered in the next inning though as
Daniel Duley struck out a pair with a line out in the bottom of the second, followed by another one-two-three inning in the third.
Oakland looked to build a comeback in the fourth as back-to-back singles from
Brandon Nigh and
Ben Clark put two on with no outs. Both runners advanced off a failed pickoff attempt, as Nigh crossed the plate off a ground out to make it 6-1 after four.
The team continued to chip away at the lead as Nigh batted in Rice who rounded the bases after he was hit by a pitch, one of two batters hit by a pitch in the inning. Rice was the only runner to cross the plate though but put the then six-run deficit to four.
Lamar gained a run back though in the sixth, followed by four more in the seventh and the eighth, to take the win, 15-2.
The Golden Grizzlies stay in Texas and return to the diamond Wednesday (Feb. 26) as it heads to San Antonio to face UTSA. First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on ESPN+.
