SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Despite a pair of home runs, the Golden Grizzlies baseball squad dropped its second and final game in the state of Texas, 13-3, in seven innings tonight against UTSA at Roadrunner Field.
The Golden Grizzlies (1-8, 0-0 HL) were led by both
Sam Griffith and
Brandon Nigh who tallied a pair of hits each, as
Trent Rice led the team with a pair of RBI.
The Roadrunners (7-3, 0-0 AAC) has five players tally multi-hit nights as Mason Lytle led with three hits and three RBI.
The Golden Grizzlies were down early as a pair of runs in the first and second inning put the team down by four. Oakland had some opportunities to get runs on the board, as it put a runner in scoring position in the third, but weren't able to convert. The Roadrunners kept it coming though, as three more in the fourth widened the gap to 7-0.
Oakland put another runner in scoring position in the fifth but ultimately was left stranded, as UTSA answered with another pair of runs. Nigh was able to put Oakland on the board with a lead-off home run, but the Roadrunners answered with one more in the bottom of the frame. It appeared the Golden Grizzlies were rallying for a late comeback, as a Griffith single was followed by a Rice blast out of the park, but a trio of runs in the bottom of the inning ended the game in seven as Oakland fell, 13-3.
The Golden Grizzlies return to the diamond this weekend as it'll face New Mexico State Friday to Monday for a four-game series.
