Box Score 2 MIDLANDS, Mich. & YPSILANTI, Mich. – In a successful weekend, the Golden Grizzlies secured back-to-back 5-2 victories against Northwood and Eastern Michigan.
In their match-up against the Timberwolves, the Golden Grizzlies secured their first win of the season. Dominating doubles play with wins from pairs
Emilia Jarvinen and
Warisara "Best" Lee (7-6), and
Edie Hammond and
Martyna Piechowicz (6-2), the Golden Grizzlies got out to a strong start. The Golden Grizzlies left no room for the Timberwolves in singles play, with
Emilia Jarvinen (7-5, 6-2),
Nisa Bulut (6-3, 6-4),
Warisara "Best" Lee (6-2, 6-1), and
Josie Ward all secure wins to help lead the team to victory.
Facing Eastern Michigan on February 1 at the Chippewa Club in Ypsilanti, Oakland delivered another dominant performance. The Golden Grizzlies took the doubles point with victories from the pairings of
Emilia Jarvinen and
Warisara "Best" Lee, as well as
Edie Hammond and
Martyna Piechowicz. In singles action, Oakland secured four wins to seal the victory. Jarvinen led the way with a straight-set win at No. 1 singles, while
Nisa Bulut, Hammond, and Lee each claimed hard-fought victories in their respective matches.
With the two victories, Oakland builds momentum heading into its next match. The Golden Grizzlies will look to extend their winning streak in their upcoming competition. Next up, the Golden Grizzlies will face Ball State on February 9th at noon in Muncie, Indiana.
