Men's Basketball to Take on Wright State on the Road

ROCHESTER, Mich. – Head coach Greg Kampe and the Oakland Golden Grizzlies men's basketball team is back in Horizon League action to face Wright State on the road in Dayton on Monday, Dec. 29 at 7 p.m. ET.

In a close game among friends in downtown Detroit for Oakland's final non-conference game of the season, the No. 9 Michigan State Spartans upended the Golden Grizzlies (6-7, 2-0 HL) in a close battle, 79-70, in Little Caesars Arena before the holiday break.

Senior Ziare Wells scored 17 points, converting all three of his three-point attempts, and added two assists. Fifth-year Tuburu Naivalurua led the team with 18 points, hitting 6 of 11 from the field and securing five boards. Senior Brody Robinson tallied 13 points with three three-pointers and dished out eight assists. Despite a quiet day from shooting, junior Isaac Garrett picked up the Oakland zone defense recording six rebounds and a team-high five steals.

Senior point guard Brody Robinson was named to the Lou Henson Award Early Season Watch List. The Houston native is leading the Golden Grizzlies in scoring (16.0 ppg) and assists (6.2 apg) – ranked 18th in the nation in dishing passes and 12th with 81 total assists this season. The 5'10" shooter picked up a double-double (12 points, 10 assists) against Lamar, and shot a career-high 27 points in Oakland's Horizon League opener against Purdue Fort Wayne.

Tip-off in Dayton will be available to stream on ESPN+ with Chris Collins (PxP) and Jim Brown (Color) on the call. The Voice of the Golden Grizzlies, Neal Ruhl, will also be on the radio call on 97.1HD-3/1270am or the Audacy App online.

SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
The Wright State Raiders, under second-year head coach Clint Sargent, opened the 2025-26 season with a projected seventh-place finish in the Horizon League Preseason Poll after an 8-12 conference record last season that saw them advance to the quarterfinals of the 2025 Horizon League Tournament. Facing the same in non-conference, WSU fell 81-71 at home to Toledo in November, while picking up a six-point victory against Eastern Michigan last week before the holiday. Wright State leads the league in scoring defense, 67.9 points, as freshman guard Michael Cooper leads the group with 15.9 points/game. Longstanding opponents in the Division II era and members of the Summit League in the 2000's, Wright State holds the all-time series record at 21-12. The Golden Grizzlies split games in the series last season, picking up a slim 66-64 win on the Blacktop, before succumbing to the Raiders by four-points in Dayton last year.
