ROCHESTER, Mich. – Oakland men's basketball is back in Horizon League action to face Northern Kentucky at the Truist Arena on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. ET.
In a big mid-major matchup, Oakland (5-6, 1-0 HL) dropped 75-63 at Northern Iowa last Saturday, to cap their second-to-last non-conference game of the season.
Junior Isaac Garrett led the team with 12 points and recorded a double-double by collecting a season-high total of 10 defensive rebounds, contributing significantly to the team's efforts under the basket. Senior Brody Robinson, who has now recorded at least 12 total points in 8 consecutive games, also contributed 12 points and added five assists while making two steals. Senior Ziare Wells, now recording double digits in two consecutive games as he picked up his seventh start this season, scored 11 points and tallied two steals in the game. Fifth-year Brett White II finished with 11 points, converting three three-pointers and securing five rebounds in the paint.

Right in the middle of the Horizon League standings in sixth-place, Northern Kentucky does own the best overall record, posting 9-3, with losses to No. 18 Tennessee, East Tennessee, and Purdue Fort Wayne. Now in seven seasons with the Norse, head coach Darrin Horn and crew is playing spread games this year with a 12.0 point average margin and second in the league with 85.8 points/game. Senior Dan Gherezgher is also second in the HL in points/game with 17.7. As a regular opponent in the Division II era for Oakland, the Golden Grizzlies and Norse have met 34 times, OU holding a 2-2 record since 2024. Northern Kentucky took care of the home team in the OU Credit Union O'rena, 84-75, last season. Naivalarua totaled 18 points, with two rebounds, and two steals against Gherezgher's 22 points of offense.
