ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional, hosted by the University of Southern Indiana, the University of Evansville, and the Evansville Regional Economic Partnership, tomorrow, Nov. 14. The races held at the Angel Mounds State Historic Site are set to begin with the women's 6k at 11 a.m. ET, followed by the men's 10k slated for 12 p.m. ET.
The Golden Grizzlies will face strong competition as it faces off against 35 schools from four states (Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin), including a handful of Power-5 programs, and all but one other Horizon League school – as the women will meet Cleveland State on the course.
Both teams look to best last year's performance from the 2024 NCAA Great Lakes Regional as the women placed 16th with a 21:27 average 6k time, while the men finished 15th overall, averaging 31:22 in the 10k.
Both teams recently wrapped up the Horizon League Championships as Oakland had a strong showing. Hosted in Fort Wayne, Ind., the women's team took third place and the men's team finished second – their best finish in the championships since 2019. In the men's 8K race, Wesley Hollowell led Oakland by finishing seventh with a time of 24:04.7, closely followed by teammates Anthony Hancock and Tristan Brandenburg in 8th and 14th places.
For the women's team, the 2025 Horizon League Women's Freshmen of the Year, Eliza Bush led with a fourth place finish at 20:59.1, just ahead of teammate Haileigh Bissett in 11th and Hannah DeRoeck in 15th helping add points to Oakland's overall performance. Both Bush and Hollowell earned First Team All-League honors, while Hancock, Bissett, and DeRoeck were named Second Team All-League.
