SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The ITA Conference Masters Championships concluded on Sunday, with Oakland's
Martyna Piechowicz representing the Horizon League in competition.
After winning the singles championship at the Horizon League Fall Championships in September, the sophomore was the conference's qualifier for an opportunity to earn a spot in the NCAA Championships last week.
In the first round on Thursday, Piechowicz faced fifth-ranked Alexia Harmon from Pepperdine University in the round of 32, but lost to the fellow sophomore 6-4, 6-2. Harmon would continue in the tournament, reaching the quarterfinals.
The ITA Conference Masters Championships included a consolation bracket alongside the main draw, giving players the chance to compete against more opponents. In the consolation bracket, Piechowicz faced Simone Bergeron from Elon University, but fell to the junior 6-1, 6-2. Bergeron reached the semifinals of the consolation bracket before losing to the eventual champion.
Results of the tournament can be found on the ITA Conference Masters Championships website under the ITA Tournament Page.
