SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Oakland men's and women's cross country teams earned numerous personal bests as, senior Wesley Hollowell broke the program's men's 8k record during their third meet of the season at the Joe Piane Invitational Friday. The Golden Grizzly men finished collectively in 14th place in the blue division 8k, as the women competed in the gold division 5k, picked up a seventh place finish, and another top-10 individual finisher.
As the women totaled 211 points across the finish, Eliza Bush continued her impressive freshman campaign for the Black and Gold as she finished in fifth place with a 5k time of 17:27.40 – a new career best. Junior Anne May followed up in 38th place (18:26.10), shortly after freshman Ava Alicandro crossed the line in 40th (18:26.40). Freshman Hannah DeRoeck competed in her first collegiate meet at Notre Dame, adding to the Golden Grizzlies success with a 18:49.80 finish for 59th place, as senior Haileigh Bissett rounded out Oakland's top finishers in 72nd place at 18:49.50.
Hollowell led the men's team in 45th place, clocking in at the school record of 23:51.50 in the 8k. Fifth-year seniors Anthony Hancock and Tristan Brandenburg followed closely behind with 23:53.90 and 23:58.80 finishes, while junior Carter McCalister wrapped up in the top-100 with a 90th place finish at 24:26.90. Sophomore Ethan Sandula closed out the team's points with another personal record at 25:13.20.
The Golden Grizzlies recently added another meet to their 2025 calendar, Oakland will now head back to the Hoosier state for the Ray Bullock Invitational, hosted by Taylor University, next Friday, Oct. 10.
