ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Oakland Golden Grizzlies Cross Country team completed a split Friday at the Alabama Crimson Classic and the Falcon Invitational, featuring runners from both teams. Freshman Eliza Bush and fifth-year Anthony Hancock led the Black and Gold in Tuscaloosa and helped the Golden Grizzlies finish 12th (women) and sixth (men) as a team, while seniors Makenna Scott and Joseph Shaya took the lead in Bowling Green as both teams finished in eighth place.
Bush finished the 6k race in 32nd place, clocking in at 20:56.80 for a new personal best. Senior Haileigh Bissett followed in 74th place (21:52.50), and junior Anne May was close behind in 21:57.30 (79th place). Freshman Ava Alicandro finished 86th (22:00.70) and senior Amy Rowan capped off the scoring for Oakland in 98th place (22:13.30).
On the men's side in Tuscaloosa, Hancock led the Oakland men in a meet for the first time this season, earning 19th place in 24:29.90. OU's men's 8k record holder, senior Wesley Hollowell, capped off his meet in 29th place in 24:49.00, while sophomore Carter McCalister finished 44th in 25:04.50. Rounding out the points, seniors Tristan Brandenburg and Josiah Magley wrapped up in 67th (25:27.00) and 108th (26:10.40), respectively.
In Bowling Green, Scott led the Oakland women for a 45th place finish, completing the course in 23:15.30. Freshmen Addison Johnson and Madeline Richman followed behind in 62nd (23:51.20) and 65th places (23:54.10). Freshman Chloe Stalhood ran in her second collegiate meet and earned a 76th finish in 24:32.20, while sophomore Miriam Murrell wrapped up a 25:17.00 in 84th place.
The Oakland men held a 26:65 average time in Bowling Green, led by Joseph Shaya in 28th place in 26:08.80. Freshman Lucas Kuhn followed behind in 26:23.60 for 37th place before freshman Mitchell Clark completed the 8k race in 26:50.00 (48th place). Sophomores Brewer Snay and Collin Farmer closed out the scoring for OU, finishing in 58th (27:13.90) and 71st (28:02.70) places.
The Golden Grizzlies are back for one last regular season meet before the Horizon League Championship, heading to Ypsilanti for the EMU Fall Classic on October 24.
