Golden Grizzlies Win 10th-Straight at Calihan Hall, Take Down Titans, 65-59

DETROIT, Mich. - Behind a pair of double-doubles from Buru Naivalurua and Allen Mukeba, the Golden Grizzlies defeated the Titans, 65-59, this afternoon for its 10th-straight win inside Calihan Hall.

The Golden Grizzlies (8-12, 5-4 HL) put its win streak to three as Naivalurua and Mukeba both finished with 13 points each along with 11 and 10 rebounds, respectively. Behind them was Jayson Woodrich who sank a trio of triples for 10 points.

The Titans (6-14, 2-7 HL) were led by Nate Johnson who finished with a game-high 16 points as Ryan Kalambay finished with a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The Titans grabbed seven of the game's first nine points, with Mukeba being the sole scorer for Oakland in the first two minutes. The team battled back though as a Naivalurua jumper sparked a 7-0 run over the next three minutes, capped off by a Woodrich three, to take a 9-7 lead with 14:49 in the half. The Titans scored a quick six, but a Malcolm Christie three, who returned from two-game injury, followed by a Jaylen Jones driving two gave Oakland the lead once again.

A 10-0 Golden Grizzlies run gave the team a 19-13 lead with 10:16 to go as Christie nailed another three to cap off the run. Oakland was getting going beyond the arch as DQ Cole got in on the action with his first three of the afternoon and the team's fourth three from range. Nassim Mashhour matched Cole's three with one of his own to extend the lead to eight, but the Titans scored a quick four points.

Play teetered back-and-forth during the final moments as Isaiah Jones hit from range with 1:59 left to make it 34-26, the only points scored in the final two minutes, as Oakland went into the locker room with the eight-point lead.

The Golden Grizzlies sank six threes in the first half as it went 13-of-30 (.433) from the floor, where the Titans made a trio of threes while going 10-of-28 (.357) from the field. Oakland was perfect from the charity stripe as it held the edge off the glass, 20-15, with nine coming offensively.

It was a defensive battle in the first few minutes of play as Naivalurua broke the ice with a pair of free throws 1:14 in. Mukeba made it a 12-point game, but the Titans showed some life as it found itself back in the game off a 9-2 run to cut the game to 40-35 with 15:16 to go. Oakland responded well though as it came out of a media timeout and drained back-to-back threes, courtesy of Woodrich and Christie, to take an 11-point lead and force a Titans timeout.

The Golden Grizzlies stayed ahead in the game and maintained a healthy lead that hung around double digits. The Titans threatened that lead with 6:12 to go as it put the lead to seven, but a free throw followed by back-to-back threes from Mashhour and Woodrich made it seem like the game was put away. Up 61-47 with 4:45 to go Oakland looked to cruise to its third-straight win, however, the Titans didn't make things easy.

In the last four minutes, the Golden Grizzlies only tallied four points, all from Mukeba, as the Titans put together a rally and nearly tied things up. Detroit Mercy cut the game to a close 63-59 score with 1:06 to go, rattling off a 12-2 run, but Oakland came through and took down the Titans, 65-59.

The Golden Grizzlies finished the game with 10 makes from range, shooting 23-of-53 (.434) from the floor and brought down 38 rebounds. The Titans sank seven from range and brought down 34 rebounds while shooting 21-of-56 (.375) from the floor.
