YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Oakland University women's volleyball team dropped both games during the opener of the EMU Tournament this afternoon at the George Gervin GameAbove Center, as it fell to George Washington, 3-0, followed by a 3-1 loss to Marshall.

MATCH ONE vs. GEORGE WASHINGTON
First Set: Oakland 21, George Washington 25
The first set was tightly contested, featuring a trio of lead changes and six ties. George Washington jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, but the Golden Grizzlies rallied back to tie things up. The game teetered back-and-forth throughout before it looked like Geroge Washinton was going to run away with the set. Down 16-11, the Golden Grizzlies didn't count itself out as a Tyler Linkhart kill ignited the Golden Grizzlies to go on an 8-0 run to take a 19-16 lead.

However, George Washington responded as it eventually tied things up at 20 before Oakland grabbed its final point of the set. George Washington closed out the set on a 5-0 run to take the early lead in the match.

Second Set: Oakland 22, George Washington 25
The second set saw a strong effort from Oakland as, just like the first set, saw numerous ties and lead changes before the set was knotted at eight. George Washington tallied its ninth point before the Golden Grizzlies rallied as five kills, including three-straight from Christina Bohm, an ace and an attack error capped off a 7-0 run. Oakland remained ahead until it was square at 21 and once again at 22. Just like the set previous though, George Washington closed out the set to go up two in the match.

Third Set: Oakland 16, George Washington 25
Oakland struggled to find its footing in the third set as it played from behind throughout the entire set. George Washington's offense hit its stride as The Colonials built an early 8-3 lead and didn't look back as it eventually closed out the set and take the match, 3-0.

MATCH TWO vs. MARSHALL
First Set: Oakland 25, Marshall 22
The first set was a closely contested battle, with both teams exchanging leads multiple times and tallying six ties. Marshall jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and built off it, but Oakland closed the gap to make it 7-6. The set remained tight from there, with key kills from Linkhart and Libby Smith keeping Oakland ahead. With the set tied at 17, a big kill from Sydney Green, followed by a pair of errors and another Green kill, gave Oakland the 21-17 lead and the momentum it needed to eventually close the set out.

Marshall made it close as Oakland had three chances to close the game but The Herd tallied three-straight points to make it 24-22. A service error though gave Oakland the set to go ahead in the match.

Second Set: Oakland 16, Marshall 25
Marshall answered in the second set as the set was another close one, but The Herd took advantage of many runs to outpace the Golden Grizzlies and stay ahead.
