YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Golden Grizzlies volleyball team swept the Eastern Michigan Eagles to end the EMU Tournament on a high note tonight inside the George Gervin GameAbove Center.
SET ONE: OAKLAND 25, EASTERN MICHIGAN 19
The Golden Grizzlies secured a tightly contested first set, defeating Eastern Michigan 25-19 in an intense battle. Oakland came out strong, with
Gentry Brown leading the way offensively, finishing several key kills off assists from
Rachel Rossman. The Golden Grizzlies capitalized on Eastern Michigan's errors, including service and attack mistakes, to maintain a narrow edge throughout much of the set.
Christina Bohm and
Sydney Green also made critical contributions at the net, combining for key blocks and timely kills that helped Oakland stay ahead. The Golden Grizzlies' defense, highlighted by strong blocking from
Libby Smith and
Ainsley Guse, held firm against the Eagles' attack.
With the set locked at 17-17, Oakland pulled away in the closing moments thanks to a flurry of points from blocks and a pair of attack errors by Eastern Michigan. The set ended on a decisive kill from Guse off another assist from Rossman, sealing the first set 25-19 in favor of Oakland.
SET TWO: OAKLAND 25, EASTERN MICHIGAN 10
Oakland dominated the second set and cruised to a 25-10 victory. Oakland established control early with a balanced attack, led by
Gentry Brown and
Ainsley Guse. Brown, who was crucial in the first set, continued her strong play, contributing key kills off assists from
Rachel Rossman.
The Golden Grizzlies capitalized on Eastern Michigan's numerous errors, both in attack and service, which allowed Oakland to extend its lead.
Christina Bohm and
Sydney Green were forces at the net, with Bohm serving up back-to-back aces, while Green and Guse combined for key blocks that stifled the Eagles' offense.
Oakland's defense held Eastern Michigan to just 10 points, as the Golden Grizzlies wrapped up the set with a strong finish.
Gentry Brown sealed the victory with a kill, off yet another assist from Rossman, to cap off a dominant performance in the second set.
SET THREE: OAKLAND 26, EASTERN MICHIGAN 24

In a thrilling third set, Oakland secured the victory in dramatic fashion to edge out Eastern Michigan, 26-24, to complete the sweep.
The set started evenly, with both teams exchanging points. Rossman continued her excellent playmaking, setting up
Tyler Linkhart for an early kill to put the Golden Grizzlies on the board, but the Eagles kept pace.
As the set progressed, Oakland capitalized on Eastern Michigan's attack errors,
Gentry Brown and Guse applying pressure at the net. A key kill by Bohm helped Oakland maintain its slim lead. However, Eastern Michigan responded with a strong push, narrowing the gap to 21-21 after a kill.
The tension mounted as both teams battled through a series of tight points. Brown's clutch kills down the stretch kept Oakland in contention, while a key block by Brown and Guse gave the Golden Grizzlies a pivotal point at 22-21. Eastern Michigan fought back to tie the set at 24-24, but Oakland would not be denied.
With the match on the line, Bohm delivered a crucial kill, and
Libby Smith sealed the victory with a service ace, securing the 26-24 win and the match sweep for Oakland.
Rachel Rossman was named to the Offensive All-Tournament Team after she totaled 84 assists, while
Christina Bohm was named to the Defensive All-Tournament Team with one solo block and seven block assists.
Gentry Brown led the Golden Grizzlies with 10 kills as she hit at a .226 clip while recording the only solo block of the match by either team.
Emily Wichmann led with 14 digs as
Ainsley Guse led at the net with five block assists for most on the team.
Christina Bohm added three aces from the service line as Oakland tallied six. As a whole, Oakland recorded 43 kills and hit at a .252 clip, while it held the Eagles to a hitting percentage of .114.

Oakland returns back to the court for its home opener at the OU Credit Union O'rena as it'll take on Sacramento State Friday (Sept. 13), with first serve set for 6:00 p.m. ET.
