AKRON, OH – The Oakland Golden Grizzlies' men's and women's cross country teams delivered strong performances at the Tommy Evans Invitational this afternoon, as the men's team placed second overall while the women's team placed fourth.
Men's 6K Recap:
The Oakland men's team secured an impressive second-place finish with a team score of 57 points, falling only to Ohio State. Graduate student
Yami Albrecht led the Golden Grizzlies with a stellar 5th-place finish, crossing the line in 18:18.8. Junior
Wesley Hollowell followed closely, securing 11th place with a time of 18:35.4. Rounding out the top five for Oakland were graduate student
Michael Hancock (18:52.3, 16th place), sophomore
Carter McCalister (18:56.4, 18th place) and senior
Tristan Brandenburg (19:03.5, 20th place).
Women's 5K Recap:
The Oakland women's team also performed admirably, finishing 4th overall with a score of 104 points. Graduate student
Grace Nolan paced the team with a 4th-place finish, clocking in at 17:54.7. Senior
Erin Hegarty was next for the Golden Grizzlies, placing 16th with a time of 18:29.9. Junior
Makenna Scott (18:52.6, 28th place), senior
Sarah-Rose Sullivan (19:08.2, 36th place) and graduate student
Brooke Aho (19:24.5, 47th place) completed the scoring for Oakland
Both teams demonstrated their depth and potential, setting a positive tone for the rest of the season. The Golden Grizzlies will look to build on these performances as they continue its campaign Sept. 20 at Western Michigan.
