Women's Soccer Continues Active Summer as they Land West Coast Transfer Marina Downing

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Golden Grizzlies Women's Soccer continues to add talent this summer as they announce the signing of forward Marina Downing.

Downing, an upcoming junior, brings aggression and impactful play to the program, having a high profile career thus far. A native of Carlsbad, Ca., she was the leading goal scorer in the state as a member of La Costa Canyon High School. She also played a key role with youth soccer program City SC, earning the team the rank as one of the top five clubs in the country.

Over her first two collegiate seasons she attended Eastern Washington where she played in a total of 28 games, tallying nearly 500 minutes on the pitch. The team scored a total of 35 goals last season with Downing as a part of the scoring attack as she showcased an inherent ability to make deep runs past the opposition's back line for scoring opportunities. In addition to a strong presence on the field, Downing is an All-Academic student as well, earning a 3.7 GPA and was a two-time Big Sky Conference Fall Honor Roll member.

"I'm thrilled to welcome Marina to our team. She boasts an impressive youth background, having played for City SC in California, where her club consistently ranked in the top 10 in the US Soccer Development Academy," said Oakland Head Coach Devin Zvosec. "Marina's competitive mindset and desire to score goals make her a great addition to our team. Her skill set will integrate seamlessly with our group of players, and I look forward to seeing her make a strong contribution to our attack this upcoming season."

The signing continues the emphasis of goal scoring for the Golden Grizzlies next season, and no doubt that the addition of Downing will bolster the Oakland offense for the foreseeable future.
